A man was due to appear in court today charged over the death of a nine-year-old boy.
Callum John Oakford, known to his friends as CJ, died in hospital after colliding with a car on the A259 at Ferring on Thursday.
Kamel Kadri, 38, from Goring, has been accused of failing to stop at the scene of a road accident, failing to report an accident and other document offences.
He was due to appear before Worthing magistrates today.
CJ, who was from Durrington, was with his older brother and a friend when the collision happened at about 4pm.
He had been trying to cross the road to get to the central reservation.
CJ was taken to Worthing Hospital but died from his injuries.
Meanwhile, tributes are piling up at the roadside spot where the incident happened.
A giant teddy bear has become the centrepiece of a makeshift shrine built by well-wishers in memory of the nine-year-old schoolboy.
CJ's elder brother and other close family members were too shocked to make a public statement at the weekend. They are being comforted by police and relatives.
Among the flowers and cards left was a messages from one of CJ's classmates reading: "Thank you for being my friend. You helped me in everything in class.
"You were nice to me when other kids were not. I will never forget you. I love you. I hope you had a lovely Christmas."
Another tribute read: "CJ, may your soul rest in heaven amongst the angels and the clouds. Rest in peace little one."
Inspector Natalie Carron, who is leading the investigation into CJ's death, has renewed calls for witnesses to come forward.
Anyone with information about the crash should call Ms Carron on 0845 6070999 or Crimestopppers on 0800 555111.
