I object to the planning application for the proposed development straddling the corner of Somerhill Road and Somerhill Avenue in Hove.
I lived close to the site for decades and feel such a high-density building would be out of character with the local environment.
The proposed development is also near the two schools in Somerhill Road - Davigdor Junior and Somerhill Middle School. The increase in traffic generated by such a development would be dangerous to the pupils at these schools.
The local NHS doctors' registers are full and the application does not seem to address this point. We just cannot take any more NHS doctors' patients in this area.
It is difficult to park in this area and 108 more dwellings will exacerbate this. I understand that only about half the flats will have parking spaces.
Further, it seems that those who would live in the "affordable" housing will have no parking spaces allocated to them. So a nurse on night shift would have no parking space.
Very near the proposed development is Wavertree House, an RNIB residential home for blind people. Many of the residents enjoy a stroll in their neighbourhood and the planning committee should consider their needs.
It is not likely that many of the residents could find the energy to object to the proposal.
As a visually-impaired person myself, I take the liberty of speaking on their behalf.
The reason for this proposal is to enrich the developers and those homeowners affected. There is nothing illegal about that but it should not be overlooked.
