Well done to Shaun Williamson, who played Barry Evans in EastEnders, for speaking out about the violent content of the show.

It has gone on far too long and is getting much worse. The scriptwriters have lost the plot. We deserve a more balanced storyline which relates to normal people's lives.

Dame Helen Mirren is quite right to point out the "vile, horrible way they are to each other".

There hardly seems to be a character who isn't snapping, snarling and being spiteful.

If we all carried on like that our family and friends would disown us. This is no way to show our children how to behave.
