Immigration officials are questioning four Chinese nationals who were found on a beach in East Sussex.
Police arrested the men, all thought to be adults, after they were spotted on a beach at Pevensey Bay, near Eastbourne.
A Home Office spokesman said immigration officers were trying to establish how the men, who were covered in sand and water, had arrived on the beach.
All four were taken to Eastbourne police station, where they spent the night.
