Flaming torches illuminated a medieval street during an ancient ceremony.
Sompting Village Morrismen staged the colourful annual wassailing event in High Street, Tarring, Worthing.
Despite persistent rain they went into gardens to sing songs and tap apple trees with sticks, a superstition believed to ensure a good fruit harvest.
The tradition is believed to have Scandinavian roots.
After performing the ceremony in a private garden and in the beer garden of The Vine pub, the morrismen retired to the bar for mugs of cider.
