Martin Lee believes Greg Rusedski could be finished.
Lee has been a Davis Cup team-mate of the British No. 2 who has announced he has tested positive for the banned substance nandrolone.
Rudeski would face a two-year ban should he be found guilty at next month's ATP hearing.
The East Preston professional told The Argus today: "If Greg is found guilty it could be the end of his career.
"He's pretty old and there have been a few rumours around the circuit that he could be on his last legs.
"Greg has come back from a lot of injury trouble too.
"It will be tough for him to see how the public react. I find it strange he has come out and said what he's said but he must believe he has a good case."
Former British No. 3 Lee is stunned. He said: "If there were 100 people he'd be the last one on that list I'd have thought would have been linked with this sort of thing."
Peter Korda's career ended when he tested positive for nandrolone at Wimbledon six years ago.
The former Australian Open champion from the Czech Republic protested his innocence and even took his case to the High Court in London without success and retired.
Argentinian Guillermo Coria was suspended for seven months in 2001 after testing positive for nandrolone and is suing a vitamin supplement company.
