I attended a packed meeting in Church of the Good Shepherd hall on Tuesday night along with an estimated 200 other residents concerned about the proposed demolition of three family-sized houses in Dyke Road, Hove, and the building of 42 flats in their place.
This hideous industrial-style development will dramatically change the nature of the area and create more traffic and more on-street parking on what is already a busy road. The development is four storeys high in an area which only has two-storey houses. It exceeds the Government's guides on density of housing per hectare by 300 per cent.
Why are we destroying a perfectly pleasant part of the city and replacing it with high-density housing when other parts of Brighton and Hove are crying out for investment?
The answer, as usual, is greed and lack of consideration for other people and their environment.
Surely everyone has the right to live in a pleasant environment, so why not let the people on the east side of the city have the benefit of investment and a chance for a better environment?
