I applaud your coverage of the traffic nightmare in Upper Gloucester Road, Brighton. (The Argus, February 2).
But as a long-suffering resident, I was appalled at the comments made by Roger French of Brighton and Hove Bus and Coach Company.
I found it astonishing that he could dismiss the problem of 300 buses a day roaring past our homes as something he could do nothing about.
Simply rerouting the buses so they run along their previous routes (before the roadworks in Buckingham Road) would remedy the problem. I am surprised the city council has not acted to make this happen.
The whole saga reminds me of a reality TV series shown last year where celebrities such as Michael Winner and Frank Bruno were invited to swap their comfortable lifestyles to slum it with the common man.
I am therefore asking Mr French to stay with us for a week. We will provide him with meals and a bed (although perhaps not the warmest of welcomes) so he can sample what life in our road has become.
Perhaps a week of breathing in choking fumes every time he steps out the door, of seeing the home he lives in cracking, of the floors rattling as the No7 goes past, of taking his life in his hands every time he steps on to the pavement and not being able to hear the TV thanks to the roar of the buses will convince him that he can do something about the situation.
I look forward to hearing from him.
