Adur District Council gave planning permission for a 1,000ft long peat processing plant at Shoreham Harbour in June and met last Monday only "to discuss changes to its layout" (The Argus, February 3).
Opponents believe this huge peat plant factory will lead to intolerable noise to residents who live opposite the power station and mean they lose their sea views.
Everybody who lives within the harbour area will suffer further environmental damage and harm due to another 200 extra juggernauts thundering along our roads, causing more unacceptable dust, nuisance
and noise.
Councillors on the planning committee said at the meeting they could not address any issues which had already been covered in the original application, which I find totally misleading since no decision-making process nor proper consultation took place.
This project has implications not only for the surrounding areas. Important questions needed to be asked about the ecological damage caused by peat extraction.
Where has our democratic right gone?
