Like everyone in Brighton and Hove, I would like to express enormous sympathy for the family and friends of Jane Longhurst.
I cannot understand why Graham Coutts should ever be released from jail. I know Judge Richard Brown was doing the best he could under current sentencing laws.
But surely someone who has done something as sick as this should never be eligible for parole?
There can be no punishment great enough to pay for what he has done. Even if he repents his crime at some point in the future, he has forfeited his right to freedom.
I urge the Government to change the law to make life mean life for monsters like Coutts.
If I am elected as the MP for Hove and Portslade I will campaign for this essential reform.
-Nicholas Boles, Conservative parliamentary spokesman for Hove and Portslade
