Further to the death of nine-year-old Callum "CJ" Oakford and the article about Vicki Crowther (The Argus, February 10), it is all very well passing legislation about untaxed cars but if no one is going to enforce it, what on earth is the point?
I went shopping in Worthing and, in the short distance from the gala bingo club to Montague Street pedestrian precinct, I saw three cars with expired tax discs.
These people are so sure there is no comeback that they park in the town centre with no qualms whatsoever.
If I can see them, so can the police and wardens. Laws are no use if there is no back-up.
Any car seen on the public highway with a tax disc more than two weeks out of date, or no tax disc at all, should be removed immediately.
Yes, this would be costly in the short term but just look at the long-term benefits. There are already wardens in most towns who could report them.
What use is fining people whose tax is a few days out of date? This is just another of Blair's stealth taxes.
