Andy Schofield is a serious figure who runs an impressive school and I agree with much that he says (The Argus, February 9).
I would, however, like to stress various points in what I have been saying, which have become rather obscured:
The people I object to are those who boast of moral superiority for using the state system to their advantage while denying places at good state schools to those from non-privileged backgrounds who can't afford, for example, to move homes.
The system I advocate would most help those who are least well-off in society. These people are currently missing out on the opportunity of attending excellent state schools such as Mr Schofield's or independent schools such as Brighton College.
Where we agree most strongly is in our determination to see a system which offers all children the best possible education and start in life.
-Dr Anthony Seldon, headmaster, Brighton College
