As Victor Meldrew would say, I don't believe it.
But anything involving politicians is credible. Under the headline "Stadium is a matter of political life or death", the new-look, thinking man's Argus (February 12) reports that Des Turner, Labour MP for Brighton Kemptown, warns John Prescott that if he does not approve Falmer for an Albion stadium, he and other local Labour occupants could lose their marginal seats at the next election.
Regardless of whether Falmer is a suitable site for a stadium, am I too naive in believing that an Environment Secretary would decide this issue only after considering the recommendation of his planning inspector on environmental and planning grounds, following a full public inquiry, rather than under the influence of such considerations of political expediency as outlined by Mr Turner?
The answer, of course, is yes, I am.
