I have been a resident of Brighton and Hove for more than 30 years and witnessed the efforts of Margaret Pracy as the Spirit of Brighton and subsequently as town crier on a number of occasions.
Without the likes of her, communication of local events would, apart from The Argus, be in the hands of "experts of the digital age".
Do me a favour - computers, the internet and mobile phones actually limit the communication.
If we are to become a nation of sad techie-nerds, sitting in rooms pushing buttons, I want none of it.
Give me a colourful character with a bell, a loud voice and a smile anytime.
Tourists come to Brighton and Hove to witness colour and character on the streets. If they want digital communication they may as well stay at home.
