Pamela Hill (Letters, March 1) advocates using funds earmarked for the "restoration" of the West Pier to restore St Peter's Church, Brighton.

I wholeheartedly agree, especially now that a true restoration of the pier is not possible because there is nothing left to restore.

St Peter's is one of the finest Gothic revival churches in England, designed by Sir Charles Barry and consecrated in 1828.

It cannot be allowed to further deteriorate.
