I decided to take my grandson to Shoreham for the afternoon.

I had to pick up my granddaughter from school in Fishersgate at 3pm, so I had plenty of time.

However, I missed the No 20X and 2 buses at 2.30pm and decided to jump on a train. It was just pulling in at Shoreham station.

By now I was in something of a panic. I was met by no fewer than five rail guards (Gestapos?). "Where's your ticket?" they all chorused. So I quickly bought one from the machine.

To say I was now exhausted was an understatement, so I boarded the train plus baby, buggy and shopping (not one guard helped me) and on I travelled to Fishersgate Halt.

Silly me. I forgot there was no ramp at the other end so I had to pull baby, buggy and shopping up at least 30 stairs.

By now I had had enough. Needless to say I was late in picking up my granddaughter.

Why don't railway companies provide ramps at every station? Surely it is a must for the elderly, people in wheelchairs and mums with prams?

Why hasn't someone told the rail guards that people need ramps? We don't mind paying fares but they should at least provide us with satisfactory service.
