Scott McDonald scored two penalties and ended up playing in goal as Eastbourne United kept up their promotion push with a 3-1 win at Broadbridge Heath.

McDonald's spot-kick brace, plus a goal from 18-year-old Nathan Crabb, younger brother of Eastbourne Borough's Matt, put United in control although they had to survive for 20 minutes at the end with their leading scorer in goal after Dave Browning fell awkwardly collecting a high ball and went off.

United manager Dave Shearing said: "Scott played a part at both ends. He scored a couple but also made a couple of saves. We stay third but the results went our way around us so we're very happy."

Worthing United manager Ian Browne was frustrated after his side were held to a 0-0 draw by a hard-working Wick team.

Browne said: "It was definitely two points dropped. It's frustrating because we have such good players who have set themselves such high standards and I am never satisfied with these mediocre performances. I know it is unrealistic to try and maintain them but it is disappointing."

Midhurst and Easebourne won 3-1 at Saltdean to stay in the promotion hunt thanks to a brace by Robbie Pearce and a further effort from Chris Heighes.

Tom Levitt scored twice as improving Peacehaven beat Crawley Down 3-1.
