Every Thursday I purchase The Argus as I am looking for a new job.
I moved to Lancing in November and although I still travel up and down to Surrey every day, I now think I should get a job more locally.
I read a couple of articles recently. One was about pay in Sussex which seems to be very low. Either that or I am being paid too much. I was surprised how low it is, considering the house prices are high.
The other article was about people over 60 being employed. I am 61 in July and have been through quite a few changes in the past year. I was employed by Nuffield as an IT helpdesk administrator for six years. A company was brought in to basically sack/make people redundant. This started to happen in the summer and in October I was sold (outsourced is, of course, the correct word) with five others to a company which would from then on deal with the IT issues at Nuffield.
We are lucky that we are still in the same office but I am not sure which was worse - to stay in my job or be made redundant. I saw so many colleagues and good friends leave.
Something tells me that I may have a problem finding a job down here. Since the move my age has come up a few times, I have been told I don't look my age.
This is very nice but, until recently, I have never thought about my age and live happily on my own. I do have children but they have their own lives to lead.
