Dean Docherty (Letters, March 8) brought a good word into the taxi fare debate - knowledge.

I thought the knowledge test of the streets of Brighton and Hove was essential for every taxi driver to get his licence. In my experience, this is not the case.

I frequently pay £9 for a ten-minute drive home and have to direct the driver most of the way - a fine reward for being a good citizen and not drinking and driving. It's not what I would call a good service.
