Albion manager Mark McGhee revealed plans today to sign a replacement for Trevor Benjamin, who has been recalled from his loan spell by Leicester.

McGhee is hoping to bring in another striker on a free transfer before next Tuesday's trip to Chesterfield.

He said: "I have put an offer to a club in respect of a player and we are waiting on an answer. That doesn't mean to say I am offering money."

Benjamin is expected to be on the bench for depleted Leicester for tomorrow's Premiership match at Birmingham.

McGhee has one more loan available to him and he has not ruled out the possibility of using it to bring Benjamin back.

"If we cannot find another loan good enough to take us right through to the end of the play-offs then we will take Trevor," McGhee said.

"The problem is the latest we can sign Trevor is transfer deadline day, March 25. Therefore, the latest he can be here until is the April 25, which leaves another two League games plus the play-offs."

John Piercy replaces Benjamin at play-off rivals Port Vale tomorrow, his first start since injuring an ankle against Plymouth six weeks ago.

McGhee said: "He is a different sort of player to Trevor but we should have enough with John and Leon (Knight) to cause them problems. They have conceded 50 goals, which is a lot more than anyone else near the top of the table."

Piercy said: "It is not really my favourite position but the manager knows I can play there and do a job."
