I wonder if the prospective Tory candidate for Brighton Pavilion asked his colleague from Hove whether he, too, was in favour of Conservative proposals to dig up green spaces such as Montpelier Crescent, Adelaide Crescent, Brunswick Square and Hove Lawns to put multi-storey car parks under them (The Argus, March 13)?
Does the prospective candidate for Hove, like Tory transport spokes-woman Teresa May, see "merit in the proposal" to ruin these areas in the same way that Regency Square was ruined by the Conservative-run council in the Sixties?
What vote winning ideas will the pro-car, pro-pollution, pro-gridlock Conservatives come up with next?
Bulldozing the Regency terraces and tarmaccing over the promenade to create a six-lane motorway along the seafront?
It's ironic and not a little frightening that this prospective Tory candidate and his decidedly unsustainable, non-environmentally-friendly transport policy might actually win the Brighton Pavilion seat at the next election if enough Labour voters there switch to the Greens.
