With reference to Julian Henley's letter about disabled access to our restaurant (Letters, March 10), we do not bar wheelchair users or mobility-impaired customers and have many of both.
After the redevelopment of Al Duomo last year, we now offer full facilities at ground floor level in the bar, restaurant and coffee shop and all our staircases, including the basements, conform to current regulations for full access for ambulance crews, equipment and stretchers.
The basement bar is a private function suite and not part of the main bar upstairs. Prior to the redevelopment access was limited to the ground floor area with no other facilities.
When necessary our staff have assisted customers to other levels with much thanks and praise for their efforts. This, I am sure, we can still implement if so desired.
We have expressed our regret to Mr Henley that he could not partake of the Speeddater event and have personally spoken to Ben Tisdall at Speeddater to highlight the issue and hope that they can offer either an alternative venue or facilities to resolve the issue for mobility-impaired customers.
-Alberto Taverna, Partner, Al Duomo
