Terrorists clearly had an influence on the Spanish general election which many commentators, including Adam Trimingham, are saying is a bad thing.

But why is it? Are we conceding to their demands? Was the Spanish government warned it would be attacked if it supported Bush and Blair?

No, the threats came later. Perhaps the Spanish suddenly remembered their government had supported an unpopular war, that not only resulted in death in Spain but death, heartache and misery in Iraq, the US and the UK with the loss of many lives.

The Spanish voted for life and not death.

Perhaps Mr Trimingham should study GCSE History, like my children, and he can learn about the causes of the Second World War.

In case he doesn't know, most historians attribute the cause to the humiliation of Germany by the Allies.

Are we not guilty of the same in Israel, Afghanistan and now Iraq?

Can we really be surprised that people are angry, want revenge and need to regain their pride?

Of course I am not condoning terrorism, but until we understand and tackle the causes of terrorism it will not go away and I fear that in the short term it will get much worse.

But what really makes me angry is it is not the people that start wars that will suffer - it will be you and me.
