I was surprised by Councillor Ted Kemble's comments (The Argus, March 20) relating to the Portland Road safety review to take place following the horrific accident that killed Flo McCabe and Vicki Browne and left Becky Fish disabled.
Road safety has been the subject of complaints by Portland Road traders and residents over many years.
Coun Kemble said "speeding had been a problem for many years". As a Westbourne councillor he did nothing and now as a councillor for Wish we have not even seen him.
Now there have been two fatalities and a very serious injury, he comes out of the woodwork to comment. It is just not good enough.
Who knows if safety measures could have stopped the mindless act of a young man speeding? But then, so far, the council has not tried.
We need a lot more action and less opportunistic comments from our councillors. Listening to residents and traders would be a start.
