Manager Gary Croydon had no complaints after seeing Burgess Hill lose narrowly at home to leaders Tonbridge Angels.
Brendon Cass scored the decisive goal four minutes into the second half in front of a season-high crowd at Leylands Park of 407.
Skipper Ben Andrews went closest for the home side when his first-half header came off the bar.
Croydon said: "We played really well, there was a good crowd and it was a quality game of football, so all in all I can't really complain.
"I could not find fault in our performance at all but Tonbridge are not top of the league for nothing. They are a quality side and we have to accept we are not quite up to that standard of football yet."
