I am writing to complain about the continued appalling rubbish collection in this road.
Last week I received a council tax statement showing an increase of 8.2 per cent this year. This is higher than any London borough. I assumed that the extra money may be going towards an improved rubbish collection.
I also received a letter from the council stating that, with immediate effect, rubbish collection would be on Tuesdays, not Mondays as previously.
Accordingly, I placed my rubbish outside my flat on Tuesday to find it was not collected that day but on the Wednesday.
This week I again placed my rubbish outside my flat on Tuesday morning. By Tuesday evening the rubbish had not been collected.
I telephoned the refuse collection line to find a recorded message saying that the rubbish would be collected within 72 hours of the agreed date. I held the line to speak to someone for 15 minutes, after which I gave up.
At the top of Devonshire Place there are areas on both sides where rubbish is frequently left at all times of the week. There is a notice informing people that this is punishable by a maximum £2,500 fine or six months imprisonment. I have frequently telephoned the council to report rubbish left there. Nothing is done and the rubbish continues to be left there (including mattresses and building waste).
