While I congratulate the Noble Organisation on its successful running of the Palace Pier (oops, Brighton Pier), I think it will find that most people in this country and overseas refer to it as the Palace Pier.
So how Noble got the notion people knew it as the Brighton Pier amazes me.
Maybe it looked into the fortune-teller's crystal ball.
At the time of the name change, I was one of the presenters on Palace Pier Radio and I always referred to it as PPR. I know it's a bit cheesy but I have always been known as a cheesy presenter.
We were informed of the name change virtually overnight - we were now to be called The Brighton Pier, so no more PPR but BPR instead.
It took a lot of getting used to saying "Brighton Pier Radio". It just never rolled off the tongue.
We were never told the reasons behind the name change but there were rumours that it was to do with the proposed restoration of the West Pier.
The Nobles wanted their pier to be the only one that included the name of Brighton.
It is a pity that the folk of our dear city did not have a say in the name change.
If there had been a vote, I think everyone knows what the outcome would have been.
To me and many others it will always be the Palace Pier.
