Chichester need four points from their last two games to make certain of the division one title after securing a 2-0 victory at Sidley on Saturday.

Two goals by Lewis Fennemore gave Chi the three points and they face basement boys Shoreham next Saturday, although manager Adie Girdler is taking nothing for granted with Rye and East Preston still snapping at their heels in second and third place respectively.

Girdler said: "We won't be complacent. When we have won the title, then we can get complacent.

"Like I have been saying for the past few weeks, we are taking it just one game at a time. However, if we beat Shoreham then it is pretty much all over especially as we have a superior goal difference."

All the teams in the top six at the start of play on Saturday won, with Rye and Iden United producing an emphatic 6-0 victory over visitors Southwick in their last home game of the season.

Sean Ray bagged a hat-trick for Rye but Duncan McArthur was the real star of the show, scoring with a free-kick from the half-way line and also from 40 yards. He also rattled the bar with another thunderous long-range effort. Phil Rhodes got the other goal.

Rye play their game in hand at Ringmer tomorrow night needing a victory and manager Ryan Light has not given up the chase yet.

He said: "We are still plugging away. If we win against Ringmer then we are three points behind them going into the last two matches.

"I was delighted with our performance against Southwick. We scored some good goals and it was our last home game so we wanted to finish in style."

East Preston manager Vic Short, however, believes his side is playing for the runners-up spot after they beat Ringmer 3-0 with goals by Simon Clayton, Russ Tomlinson and Lee Farrell.

Short said: "Rye have Ringmer, who are a good side, while we have Shoreham on Wednesday. We have really given up on the title but the runners-up spot is the one we are looking for."

Ringmer had Gary Stacey sent off for violent conduct in the second half.

Pat Massaro, who recently reached the 100-goal mark for Three Bridges, continued his rich vein of form with a delightful chip from Damien Webber pass in the 1-0 win over Redhill.

Arundel's attack was missing 47-goal Miles Scerri but they still improved their chances of a top-three finish with a 4-1 win at fading East Grinstead.

Garry Norgate broke the deadlock just before half-time and Jason Wimbleton, Andy Boxall and Barry Pidgeon made it 4-0 before Matt Thorpe's late consolation.

Mullets' boss Steve Johnson said: "It was a terrific win. We out-battled them and played really well. Miles was missing and scoring four without him was the most pleasing part."

The performance of reserve team goalkeeper Nathan Gamester gave Eastbourne Town boss Dave Winterton some cause for satisfaction after a 3-2 home win over Selsey.

The youngster preserved maximum points for Town with a couple of good saves. Eamonn Brennan, Adam Davidson and an own goal were the hosts' marksmen while Paul Lee replied with two penalties for Selsey.

Hassocks fought back from 2-0 down after Kevin Moore and Calum Britton, with their first goals for the club, netted for visitors Pagham at a windy Beacon before going on to win 3-2. Pat Harding grabbed a brace (one penalty) and James Laing got the winner with two minutes remaining.

There was some welcome cheer for relegated Shoreham who won 4-2 at Whitehawk.

Rob Craven, Paul Ettridge, Martin O'Donnell and German Chris Kolle were on target with Ryan McBride and Stuart Corlett replying for Hawks.

Sidlesham came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Hailsham.

Littlehampton failed to clinch the division two title after throwing away a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 at Pease Pottage, who saved themselves from relegation in the process. Dave Neathey, Scott Christensen and Gareth Neathey netted for Pottage, who were bottom of the table for most of the campaign.
