An investigation was continuing today into the disappearance of pensioner Roy Chalmers following the discovery of a body at the foot of a cliff near where he was last seen.
Sussex Police spent the weekend searching the clifftop above Brighton Marina and the Undercliff Walk 150ft below, where the body of the elderly man was found.
The discovery was made on Friday afternoon behind a concrete wall close to the Asda supermarket by a Southern Water employee making spot checks of the area. Police have not identified the body.
Mr Chalmers, a 79-year-old retired businessman, of Overhill Gardens, Brighton, was reported missing nearly a week ago. A post-mortem examination found the man had suffered multiple injuries.
Detective Inspector Phil Mays: "We are continuing with our investigations until we know all the facts. In the meantime, we are still asking people with any information to come forward."
Mr Chalmers was reported missing by a friend on Tuesday last week.
The friend, a 40-year-old man from London, said he dropped Mr Chalmers off near the Marine Gate flats to meet an unknown acquaintance early on the evening of Easter Monday.
