What an excellent article from Aidan Radnedge (The Argus, March 30) regarding the Palace Pier and how I agree with Paul John Harris's letter about the pier being allowed to change its name.
I was a member of the previous arts, recreation and tourism committee four years ago when this was agreed.
It was then approved at the planning applications sub-committee, of which I am also a member.
The majority of members on those committees could not see any problem with changing the name, possibly because they were not born here or don't know the history of our city.
I voted against this on both occasions. Everyone knows the famous Palace Pier so why change the name?
Many people believe it is because of any future competition from the West Pier.
They could have called it Brighton's Palace Pier.
I shall never refer to the Palace Pier as the Brighton Pier.
