I would like to thank Jane Launchbury for writing about Alzheimer's (Letters, March 4) and the difficulty we have with parents suffering from this disease.
Our parents paid taxes all their lives but in their time of need they are discriminated against because they have some money.
If they had spent every penny or were suffering from cancer through smoking they would be guests of the social services or the NHS.
Instead we have to find £700 a week. Wouldn't it be better if the old people could buy into a nursing home and sell their interest when they move on?
They would then be able to pay a reduced care/food charge. This could be the basis of funding proper care homes.
