I was dismayed when the BBC Southern Counties Radio team admitted on air that they were slovenly dressed. I was under the impression that the BBC was a cut above the rest.

When you consider your appearance it makes you feel better, which results in making you more efficient at your job.

On the occasions when I go to see my grandchildren's efforts at their school, I notice the teachers are slovenly dressed and, consequently, the children are not encouraged to give the teachers the respect that they deserve. It does not cost any more to look neat and tidy.

Whoever brought jeans to this country, making us look like a crowd of herdsmen, has got a lot to answer for.

Perhaps we can stop these soul destroying dress-down days and have instead dress-up days, giving us more self esteem and being more respectful to each other.
