I am replying to the letter (April 22) from the parking attendant who asked why parents drive early to St John the Baptist school.

This is not to get close to the school but to obtain a legal parking space, as there are not a lot of them and some are taken up by people attending the local hospital.

Most of the parents do not live on the Bristol estate but come from all across Brighton - Bevendean, Moulscombe, Whitehawk and Patcham - and a lot of the parents come straight from work.

Regarding the buses and emergency vehicles, there has never been a problem with buses getting up and down the road, only with turning at the island.

My husband used to drive the number 37 and he said drivers sometimes made it hard for themselves as the good drivers had no problems.

As for emergency vehicles, in four years of my children attending the school, there has never been an emergency vehicle there but as the road is never blocked there would be no problem.

One day last week my husband went to the school to fetch the kids and a parking attendant was there. The attendant was asked if he would be issuing tickets and said he had more sense than to issue tickets around a school, especially as the cars would only be there for a short time.

I think all parking attendants should take a leaf out of his book.
