Teruyoshi Yoshida, Charlie Hooker, Ana Maria Pacheco and Tom Wichelow will test your senses to the limit at this year's Festival.
WAVE-WALL III, Charlie Hooker, University of Brighton Gallery A sound chamber installation which transforms space with movement, sound and graphics. Three giant pendulums have radio cassettes as weights which play music derived from sound samples of natural and man-made waveforms. The sound rises and falls in time to the movement of the pendulums.
THROUGH THE SURFACE, Teruyoshi Yoshida, Fabrica Gallery A shimmering, gold-leafed textile installation by a Japanese artist which is reminiscent of a lake and has inspired site-specific works by textile artist Claire Barber and composer Ed Hughes.
LAND OF NO RETURN, Ana Maria Pacheco, Brighton Museum & Art Gallery A Brazilian-born sculptor whose work is contemporary while alluding to medieval satire, Catholicism, Brazilian folklore and classical mythology. Central to the exhibition is a monumental installation which is populated by life-sized painted figures carved from tree trunks.
EXAMINATION, Tom Wichelow, Gardner Arts Centre A Culmination of the photographer's year-long residency at Brighton and Sussex Medical School in Falmer, which features collaborative work made with first-year medical students as well as his response to the environment and people.
