One of this year's Brighton Festival highlights has been soaking up the evening ambience of the Spiegeltent.

It has proved to be the best focal point of any Festival in memory with an eclectic mix of locals and visiting performers and various esteemed members of our council and celebrities networking and enjoying the friendly atmosphere.

The music has been excellent, whether a jazz band or a DJ - no other venue could succeed in getting such a mix of ages on a dance floor.

So it was with great disappointment that on entering the tent on Friday evening we found there were notices saying there had been a couple of complaints about the noise, resulting in a very speedy clamp down by the authorities.

This was surprising on two counts - firstly, that Brighton city centre had residents concerned about noise and secondly how quickly the enforcement was put in place given the stories we all know of long-running unresolved noisy neighbour disputes.

It is hoped this order can be rescinded. We only have three weeks of stepping back into history with the Spiegeltent. Let's put the festive back into Festival.
