I need to respond to the article about street drinking and anti-social behaviour (The Argus, May 5).
New Steine Mews Hostel and Equinox, plus all the other facilities in the St James's area, no doubt do a fine job. However, everyone seems to overlook the fact that they are located in an appropriate area.
Treatment facilities used to be housed in the grounds of Brighton General because these people are ill and need treatment, not be allowed to disrupt the lives of the many elderly and vulnerable people who live in the area and who expect their elected representatives to do just that - represent their views and concerns.
Businesses are closing because of the current location of these facilities and tourists are being turned away because of the continued level of street drinking and associated anti-social behaviour in and around the Pavilion, Old Steine and St James's.
The community safety team has been swelled from two to about 22 people but without any apparent commensurate drop in anti-social behaviour.
I refuse to allow my life to be decimated because of the needs of a few people who have moved into the area and caused mayhem over many years.
