Little Britain comedian David Walliams revealed his love for Eastbourne during filming for his latest project.

Walliams spoke to The Argus in between filming scenes for four films for ITV1's Miss Marple series, based on Agatha Christie's famous spinster sleuth.

He said of the town: "I love it here. I've been here before when I starred with Reeves and Mortimer and, like then, I've brought the weather with me."

Filming took place on the seafront, at the five-star Grand Hotel and on the beach just west of the pier.

Walliams, famed for Little Britain roles including eccentric hotelier Ray McCooney, transvestite Emily Howard and the teacher of Vicky "yeah but no but", stayed at the Cavendish Hotel in Grand Parade.

He mingled with dozens of people who crowded along the seafront to watch the beach transformed into a Fifties scene with more than 50 extras in old-style costume.

People in boaters, garish make-up and flowing dresses acted alongside men in tweed waistcoats and brogues.

Walliams, who has been romantically linked to Patsy Kensit and Lisa Snowden, was in Eastbourne with actors Jack Davenport, from Coupling, and Simon Callow.

Miss Marple is played by Geraldine McEwan in adaptations of Christie's novels The Body In The Library, A Murder is Announced, Murder At The Vicarage and 4.50 From Paddington.

Her arrival on ITV1 follows a landmark deal between ITV1 and Agatha Christie Ltd, part of the rights company Chorion.

It gives ITV1 exclusive rights to produce period adaptations of all Christie titles and follows the channel's recent Poirot series.

Filming began earlier this month on the four two-hour dramas, which will be transmitted later this year.

Other actors taking part include Joanna Lumley, Tara Fitzgerald, Adam Garcia and Ian Richardson.
