We are members of the Labour party who despair at the Government's policy on Iraq.
On Saturday we took part in a march organised by Sussex Action for Peace to the constituency surgery of Defence Minister Ivor Caplin to express our disapproval of the Government's unquestioning support of US action in the Middle East and to hear Mr Caplin's explanation of this aspect of Government policy.
There were fewer than 100 people attending this well-behaved and well-policed event and we expected Mr Caplin would come out of his office to speak to us. He refused.
We feel Mr Caplin's refusal to engage with the local electorate and address legitimate issues raised in a peaceful and lawful manner demonstrates a lack of courage or a lack of conviction in the policies for which he is partly responsible.
