Travelling along the A23 in the Bolney area I saw two council employees wearing hi-visibility jackets collecting roadside litter.
Yet a Brighton and Hove City Council spokesman has said the road would have to be closed before its employees were allowed to collect litter from the Brighton by-pass.
As a final thought, perhaps the passing motorists could take their litter home instead of throwing it out of the window, thus relieving the council of the task of collecting it.
