We had a great time at The Argus Achievement Awards on Friday and were surprised and delighted to win the Charity of the Year award, particularly from such a strong field of nominations. Truly, everyone there was a winner.
We're so grateful to all who nominated and voted for Group B Strep Support (GBSS). And to The Argus - both for the evening itself and for their support since the charity's early days, publishing stories about the condition, so raising awareness that is vital to saving new-born babies' lives.
We're indebted to our MP, Nicholas Soames, whose committed support of our campaign for effective prevention strategies to be implemented throughout the UK has given such a push to this actually beginning to happen.
And last (but not least) we're very grateful to the charity's members, supporters and our incredibly committed team of medical advisors, staff and volunteers without whose commitment, expertise and enthusiasm we wouldn't have got this far. It really is a team effort.
So often the media gets a poor press - Friday's event was a superb example of just how much good it can do. We thank The Argus for the award and applaud you.
And I still can't quite believe it.
