I agree with Sue Cartwright (Letter, May 17) regarding the quite unnecessary use of the lovely Hove Lawns as a football pitch, especially since Hove Park, which has ample space for recreation, is invariably empty at weekends.
Why can't these pleasure-wreckers be officially instructed to use proper facilities and not areas where small children, families and residents who have every right to picnic, relax and enjoy these lawns, do so at their peril of being hit by flying footballs?
This menace and the over-zealous skateboarders make a laughing stock of the word "promenade" and I am heartened to read that consideration is being given to a proper skateboard arena.
I have nothing against young people playing football or skateboarding. In fact, it is good to see them enjoying themselves. But please let it be in areas specifically created for this purpose.
