Mr E Tanner criticises Mrs W Robson for making her rightful claim to maternity pay (The Argus, May 25). But didn't he read the full article?
Had he done so, he would have seen Ms Robson has been in fixed contracts with specified daily hours for most of her nursing career .
The trust has difficulty in retaining committed, hard-working staff and rely heavily on bank nurses - if Mr Tanner was to need nursing care, would he distinguish a difference in care between a bank nurse and a contracted nurse? Probably not.
Surely, Ms Robson should be rewarded - as all nurses within the Trust - for her commitment and the long hours she works and receive maternity pay that rightfully is hers?
In response to wasting taxpayers' money - surely Ms Robson paid National Insurance and tax during her employment on the hospital bank and if she was earning a higher rate of pay than contracted nurses, her tax would have been at a higher rate?
