I wonder how many readers are aware of the exhibition in Brighton Town Hall (until Friday, June 4) about the proposed development of the Brighton Centre site?
When I went to check it out, even the receptionist didn't know what I was talking about, which suggests that publicity for this consultation has not been a priority.
The exhibition is very limited, does not include a copy of the planning guidance and there were only a couple of leaflets left to "have your say". But the proposals are dramatic, covering an area that stretches from Western Road to the sea and from the Hilton Metropole to West Street.
There's talk of demolishing the large, multi-storey car park, which is always full, and of towerblocks and "exciting" and "landmark" developments.
If the tacky-looking, new curved building opposite the Pavilion is anything to go by, a sensitive approach to the context does not mean much to the city's planning department.
Whatever your thoughts about the current Brighton Centre/Odeon/Churchill Centre, this is already a very well-used area and so a hugely important issue. The implications of the serious changes being proposed need to be more widely discussed.
