Albion manager Mark McGhee today warned some established members of the squad to buck their ideas up or risk being moved on.
McGhee has 11 players with a year still left on their contracts. Danny Cullip, Leon Knight, Richard Carpenter, Charlie Oatway, Ben Roberts and Dan Harding all have deals taking them through to the end of next season, when the Seagulls return to the First Division.
So too have Gary Hart, Adam Hinshelwood, Michel Kuipers, Paul Watson and Kerry Mayo.
Some of the 11 will be rewarded for promotion with better deals, others have been told they must improve.
McGhee has not named names but he revealed: "There are players still under contract whose contract we will be reviewing. There are also players who are under contract but who I have, in a sense, thrown down the gauntlet to and told they have got to do better.
"They have to improve in all areas, in terms of fitness and everything, between now and the early part of the season or I will be doing everything I can to move them on."
Guy Butters, Adam Virgo, Nathan Jones, Chris Iwelumo and Paul Reid have all been offered new contracts of at least a year and John Piercy, David Lee, Dean Hammond and Dan Beck three months apiece.
Many of the players are now on holiday but McGhee hopes to finalise several deals before going on holiday himself for three weeks from Monday and leaving the financial details in the hands of chairman Dick Knight.
He added: "I am sure come August we will still be sat talking about one or two. That's the way it is."
