It would be appreciated if Lynn Daly's replacement, Rebecca Maer, could talk less out of her "Barefaced chic" when it relates to loving parents struggling desperately "against the odds" to bring up their children healthily and happily (The Argus, June 1).
Yes, with my wife and self having to work full-time to pay the bills
with (hopefully) a little extra left to enjoy family life with our two boys (without increasing our credit card bill), we struggle not just with a weight problem.
So, excuse me for snapping at a seemingly self-righteous, comfortably-numb Ms Maer when she says "snap out of it" - whatever "it" is.
If only we could.
"Walk to school with your children (and presumably back from school). Yes, you do have time".
No, we don't have time. If we made that time, one of us would lose our job.
"Stop feeding children processed food...".
Have you seen, Ms Maer, the difference in price between so-called "junk food" and so-called healthy "organic" food ?
"Turn the oven on and cook fresh food...".
Ms Maer, after we both get back from work, if we did that, there
would be precious little time for much else - such as cleaning, washing, ironing, sleeping and just enjoying our time together as a family in the evening.
"Everyday life" is clearly different on Rebecca Maer's planet than ours, and she concludes: "We seem to have lost the knack."
Indeed so, Ms Maer - the "knack" of caring about people less fortunate than yourself.
