How unfair of Audrey Simpson to pick on the prices charged at the Pavilion Gardens cafe (The Argus, July 2). The prices are still lower than many other open air cafes in Brighton that are not situated in such pleasant surroundings.
One can hardly call the substantial Pavilion Gardens cafe a "hut" and she admits Portland Road can hardly compare with the Pavilion Gardens location, so I would have thought she might expect to pay a little more for sitting in what she calls a "magical environment".
To call proprietors greedy when charging reasonable prices for a variety of enjoyable food seems to me a little over the top.
Another open air cafe offering good value for money and in a marvelous seafront position is the Meeting Place by the Peace Statue - I wonder what Audrey Simpson would think of their comparable prices?
I know where I would rather sit on a fine summer's day and that is not inside a cafe, even if it was a few pence cheaper.
