Having attended the planning meeting regarding the proposed sewage works for Peacehaven, it would not just be the eastern end of Peacehaven that will be affected.
The site would take three to four years to construct with, at times, 200 construction vehicles a day going to it, with all the dust and dirt associated with that.
The construction traffic would travel mainly via South Coast Road, Sutton Avenue and Greenwich Way and then through the industrial estate, going past the Meridian Centre and the new secondary school.
After construction, using the same route, there would be 40 lorry trips per day.
Two new tunnels would be bored using the same type of machinery and construction as the channel tunnel, one from Peacehaven to Brighton and the other to the new outfall off Peacehaven.
These tunnels would be bored under homes and roads of Peacehaven and the spoil dumped around the proposed site. The Southern Water representative was vague about the size of the building and the site but did say Peacehaven had been chosen as it was able to cope with future expansion.
This all sounds horrendous for residents of Peacehaven and as usual the artist's impression of what is to built it totally misleading.
