A £10 million bullet train could run along Brighton's seafront.
The futuristic monorail would link some of the main leisure attractions and would be the first public transport system of its kind in the UK.
Plans were today unveiled for the system which its backers say could be up and running within two years.
It would connect Brighton Marina to the Palace Pier and call at several stops on the way.
But Brighton and Hove City Council, which would have to approve the scheme, is known to favour buses to provide a rapid transport system.
Millions of people make their way between the two seafront venues each year and developers say the smart modern scheme is needed to connect the marina to the rest of the city.
Named the Brighton Bullet, it would put the city on a par with places across the world such as Moscow, Sydney, Hawaii, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta and Tokyo which all have monorail public transport services.
