I should like to assure Diane Kean (Letters, July 3) I already spend much of my time and energy on encouraging men to foresake their trousers in favour of men's skirts such as kilts.

Every week, I receive requests from men all over the world for help and advice on the subject.

Last year, I was guest of honour at receptions and parties across the USA during a coast-to-coast tour which I made at the request of one of my American kiltmakers.

Similarly, I am invited to Vancouver next summer to appear and speak at a number of men's fashion events, one of which will be under the patronage of the mayor of the city.

I believe the most effective way to encourage others is by setting an example myself and this, I am told, I manage to do with minimum effort.
