Southern Water is proposing to bore a new eight kilometre tunnel from Peacehaven to Brighton through already unstable cliffs.
Nobody wants a new giant sewage works anywhere. Would it not be far better to have a more practical sensible and cheaper scheme?
Build a new smaller sewage works just for Brighton and Hove east of Brighton at Sheepcote Valley or, better still, just east of the Marina on the foreshore incorporating a new outfall.
We are told by Southern Water that the sewage works at Eastbourne and Hastings are good examples and both are on the seafront at the eastern end of the towns.
Then modernise and update Portobello for sewage from just Ovingdean, Rottingdean, Saltdean, Telscombe Cliffs and Peacehaven.
Then there would be no need for any new tunnels. After all, there is always the old proverb: "Two smaller sewage works are always better than one great big one."
